Welded Steel Frame Building

Have you always wanted to build your own dream bike?

This is your chance to learn bicycle frame building from Metal Guru at Vicious Cycles’ world headquarters in New York’s beautiful Hudson Valley.

Classes feature a low student to instructor ratio and flexible course scheduling. The class will consist of lectures, demos and hands on learning. Classes are limited to a maximum of two students at a time.

The class is structured as a 68-hour course, which has a flexible schedule, based on your availability.

Parts kits are available for purchase so that students can depart with a complete bicycle. For those who do not take the paint course, they can use Vicious Cycles’ custom paint services or ship the frame to the paint shop of their choice.

You can choose from road, track, cyclocross, touring, hard-tail XC mountain (26”, 650B, 29”) either geared or single speed. Fork manufacturing is not included in the curriculum, but Vicious Cycles forks will be available for purchase.

Your tuition will include the following, use of the Vicious Cycles’ facilities and tools, instruction, handout materials, practice material, basic frame materials for one frame (see below for additional materials options). It does not include painting your frame, your lodging, travel expenses, or personal living expenses.

The tube set for the frame class is double-butted chrome-moly, but an upgrade to a Columbus Zona S-bend rear and Reynolds 853 top and down tubes for an additional $100 (note that when choosing this option, extra time will need to be spent practice welding). Also, note that slider style dropouts or eccentric bottom brackets will have a $100 up charge.

Tuition for the frame course is $3450.

A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $750 is required to reserve a spot for the frame course. Payment in full is due one week prior to the beginning of the course. Upon receiving your deposit we will contact you to review course specifics, schedule and logistics such as lodging, travel and area attractions.
